Tenazio

Valpolicella Classico Superiore Ripasso DOC

A noble Ripasso, refined and intriguing, which, thanks to the altitude and the calcareous soils of our vineyards, retains a smooth and balanced taste. A complex bouquet that surprises like a symphony: notes of black cherry, dried fruit, date, spice, and pomegranate. The structure of Tenazio is achieved through a second fermentation on the pomace of Amarone and Recioto, followed by extended aging in French oak barrels.

2010

Valpolicella Classico Superiore Ripasso DOC

What kind of vintage was 2010? The 2010 vintage was marked by a long, cold winter with abundant rainfall that extended into May and June. Summer months, like spring, continued with slightly below-average temperatures and frequent precipitation. These conditions led to the production of well-sized but more loosely packed grape clusters. Significant temperature variations close to the harvest allowed for optimal accumulation of sugars and anthocyanins, crucial for excellent grape ripening. These favorable conditions were particularly evident in the grapes harvested from our Costa delle Corone vineyards, located at 600 meters above sea level.

2011

Valpolicella Classico Superiore Ripasso DOC

What kind of vintage was 2011? The 2011 vintage was notable for a very rainy winter and generally average temperatures. Bud break occurred early due to an exceptionally wet and warm first quarter. Spring brought elevated temperatures and significant drought, leading to flowering over 15 days earlier than the previous year. Despite rainy summer months, August was marked by high temperatures and minimal rainfall, promoting excellent cluster development. The harvest began in the early days of September under sunny conditions with significant day-night temperature variations—ideal for grapes destined for the drying loft.

2012

Valpolicella Classico Superiore Ripasso DOC

What kind of vintage was 2012? The 2012 vintage was characterized by a mild winter with limited rainfall, leading to early bud break in the first days of April. However, a return of cold weather in spring slowed growth, delaying flowering by a week compared to the previous year. The summer was marked by high temperatures and scarce rainfall, creating water stress for the vines, which was managed through emergency irrigation. Despite these challenges, late August rains and favorable temperature variations allowed for balanced ripening. The harvest began in the second half of September. This vintage will be remembered for the challenges faced, but the grapes exhibited excellent health and overall good quality.

2015

Valpolicella Classico Superiore Ripasso DOC

What kind of vintage was 2015? The 2015 vintage was an exceptionally positive year for appassimento wines from Valpolicella. Winter and spring experienced high temperatures, with July breaking historical heat records. Early rains were followed by water scarcity, but vine growth remained consistent, with early bud break in early April and flowering in the last ten days of May. Despite the intense heat, grape ripening occurred gradually and without delays. These conditions posed significant challenges to the vines, but careful agronomic management ensured the quality of the harvest was preserved.
