Amarone Costa delle Corone

What kind of vintage was 2007? In the past decade, we have been witnessing the effects of climate change, including rising summer temperatures, milder winters, and extended springs. The 2007 vintage can be seen as a precursor to these modern times: a year marked by a winter with above-average temperatures and low rainfall, leading to an early vegetative cycle compared to seasonal norms. However, the lack of winter rains was offset by abundant precipitation in May and June, which occurred at the perfect time to ensure the integrity of the grapes and the health of the vines. A sunny and stable summer season followed, with these conditions continuing into the harvest period. The harvest began around September 10th, under stable weather conditions with sunny, breezy days and significant temperature variations between day and night—the ideal mix for achieving excellent grape ripeness, particularly for those destined for the drying process.

2008

Amarone Costa delle Corone

What kind of vintage was 2008? The 2008 vintage saw a return to the traditional timing of the vine's vegetative cycle. Temperatures were within seasonal averages, as were rainfall levels. The beginning of spring was marked by abundant rainfall events that continued until the end of June, giving way to warm and sunny days in the following two months. The harvest began in the last decade of September, under dry conditions, slightly above-average temperatures, and significant day-night temperature variations. These factors allowed for optimal phenolic ripeness.

2009

Amarone Costa delle Corone

What kind of vintage was 2009? The 2009 vintage stands out as one of the best in the decade from 2000 to 2010. A particularly harsh winter with abundant rainfall ensured sufficient water reserves for the months ahead. Spring saw an early bud break due to above-average temperatures in March, accompanied by warm, sunny days. August was notably scorching, and the harvest began around September 9th. The harvest unfolded under excellent climatic conditions, with sunny days, minimal rainfall, and significant day-night temperature variations. It was a vintage characterized by reduced yields, favoring excellence and quality.

2010

Amarone Costa delle Corone

What kind of vintage was 2010? The 2010 vintage was characterized by a long, cold winter with significant rainfall that continued into May and June. Both spring and summer months experienced slightly below-average temperatures and abundant precipitation, resulting in grape clusters that were well-sized but more loosely packed. High temperature variations near the harvest period allowed for an optimal accumulation of sugars and anthocyanins, which were crucial for excellent grape ripening. These conditions were particularly beneficial for the grapes harvested from our Costa delle Corone vineyards, located at 600 meters of altitude.

2011

Amarone Costa delle Corone

What kind of vintage was 2011? The 2011 vintage stood out for its very rainy winter and generally average temperatures. Bud break occurred early, thanks to an exceptionally wet and warm first quarter. Spring continued with elevated temperatures and significant drought, leading to flowering over 15 days earlier than the previous year. Despite rainy summer months, August brought high temperatures and little rainfall, promoting excellent cluster development. The harvest began in the first days of September, under sunny conditions and with significant day-night temperature variations—ideal conditions for grapes destined for the drying loft.
